Been thinking more about this.
My wizard in the current campaign is a utilitarian and he wants to accelerate techno-magical progress. How do you do that? In a magical fantasy society.
interesting: the author posits that in a fantasy world, the economy runs on the inflationary aspect of discovered treasure versus the deflationary aspect of magic users destroying gold to cast spells.

magical monetary theory, or MMT if you willhttps://t.co/d3szUu5phe
Not just with this one idea but with the attitude of taking the magical world seriously.
what, with currency-based magic?

It’s possible that golems are sentient creatures so projected negative QALYs are too much risk.
you haven't put an army of golems to work harvesting your fields of components yet

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Why does it burn resources to use magic? How cheap could magic be? Universal basic magic?
it depends as to whether the costs of things like spell scribing/potion crafting are constants of thaumic processes or inefficiencies in current methods. if latter, bringing down those costs could be a multiplicative force both for "basic research" and health/commonwealth

Hmm, this is very cool. Might create some kind of demi-plane full of pleasure beings as a counterweight for all of the lives I’ve had to end for the greater good.
speaking as someone who has never played D&D im just spitballing here:

1. Demon that experiences time very slowly
2. Sentient bacteria in a pocket dimension
3. Magically create him: https://t.co/TMhgBwqRrv
I leave directing resources toward them as an exercise for the gamer
Modern propaganda technology would lead to a very different world, I agree.
Most magical advances seem to be already made but not distributed, just sitting around unused in the minds of some ancient lich or forgotten library. So, best bet is stop bothering with actually doing magic yourself and just focus on talking a dragon into starting a podcast.
