There is a weird divergence between what’s happening at the bleeding edge of the tech itself, and the 2013-ish vintage eschatologically oriented “humans vs AI race” conversation frames
Though I think AGI takeoff is a legit threat, the near-term singularity is the reorganization of society by the effects of augmented humans. Two-pronged effect: dissolving the coordination power of legacy institutions + super-empowering individuals and new groups.
The transhuman future is Avengers, not Ultron.
